There were an estimated 12,788 house and unit sales transacted in Victoria in September 2023, and 125,993 sales in the past 12 months. Based on these estimates, the share of auctions sold as a percentage of overall sales was 19.2 per cent in the 12 months to September 2023.
In August 2023, there were approximately 8,558 new housing finance commitments for owner-occupiers in Victoria. This is a decrease of 14.3 per cent from August 2022.
The total number of building approvals in August 2023 increased by 22.2 per cent compared to previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, with approximately 4,842 dwelling units approved. There were 53,803 dwelling units approved in the past 12 months to August 2023 for Victoria.
Private listings in Victoria took 41 days on market to sell in September 2023. Properties in metro Melbourne spent 36 days on market, four days more than previous month. For regional Victoria, the median days on market is 53 days, nine days more than previous month.
Homes across inner, middle, and outer rings saw the same increase on their selling time with four days over the month.
