Glen Waverley is a large suburb located 19 kilometers away from the east of Melbourne, In Victoria, Australia. It is one of the largest suburbs in Melbourne in terms of land area and is present within the local government area of Monash city. The first settlement in the area happened in the mid-nineteenth century, and the land was used for farming and cultivating orchards. The city was first named Glen Waverley in 1921; the name refers to the Edinburgh Waverley railway station mentioned in a novel by Sir Walter Scott.

About Glen Waverley

Glen Waverley primarily includes the residential land area and extends from the Blackburn Road to the Dandenong Creek and from Highbury Road, East Burwood, to Ferntree Gully Road. According to the 2021 census, the estimated population for Glen Waverley is 41,928. Glen Waverley has a rich geographical variation ranging from river flats near the Dandenong creek to the hilly area between the Dandenong Creek and the Scotchmans Creek.

The Dandenong Creek borders the area from the east side, and the Waverley Road and View Mount Road are present in the south-east. The Ferntree Gully Road is in the south, and Blackburn Road and Highbury Road bound the suburbs from the west and the north, respectively. Springvale Road, a prominent distributor of the north-south region, roughly divides the suburb into two.

Why Glen Waverley?

The suburb gets its name after the Glen Waverley railway line, which terminates at the station in the area. Classified as a premium station, the suburb comes in the Metro Zone 2. The metro services operate every 7-8 minutes during peak hours, and during the off-peak periods, the service arrives every fifteen minutes. Metro departs platforms 1 and 2 with a frequency of 7–8 minutes in peak hours. The Syndal station is present to the west of Glen Waverley railway station.

Besides the full-fledged railway system, several buses operate in the vicinity. These bus services are jointly managed by Ventura Bus Lines and CDC Melbourne. The public transport carefully connects the important destinations in and outside the suburbs, such as the Monash University, Chadstone Shopping Centre, Eastland Shopping Centre, Westfield Knox, Rowville, St. Kilda, Glen Iris, Springvale, Blackburn, Mitcham, Dandenong, and Croydon.
